Shooting in a controlled environment can be both challenging and frustrating. Staging inanimate objects is one extreme. Shooting live models is very challenging and difficult.

The common challenge is lighting. I believe I cannot casually get fine results. Having the right lighting equipment is always a factor. Understanding the nuances of the sophisticated equipment compounds the challenge. I don’t shoot in studio enough to develop and refine my skills. Although, I love the challenge and am generally very pleased with the results.

Time is another major factor. I shoot may take a skilled studio photographer one hour, but it can take me hours. Knowing and developing the process is the key. Workflow must be planned and specific to the subject matter. When all these elements work properly, the product can be very satisfying and rewarding.
